Alexander “Truth”

I think I’ve recently come to the decision that this is my favorite song of the year. I know 2011’s not quite over yet, but I’m not sure I’ll find anything else that resonates this much with me.

I just love everything about it. It’s simple and traditional in its folkiness, yet the hip hop elements give it something really unique and relevant. It has those lyrically cheeky moments that have come to shape modern rap braggadocio, but it’s more world-weary than arrogant. A beautiful vulnerability is communicated in every bit of this song— there are parts where you almost feel Alexander Ebert trembling through his vocals.

It’s just honestly perfect to me.

Also, Breaking Bad.

It just gets better and better every time I listen to it, and I’ve been listening to it on repeat for quite a while.
